Incredible Landscapes- 5th Grade

Standard

Paul Gauguins use of bright colors in his landscape paintings was an inspiration for the 5th graders winter landscape paintings. After discussing the foreground, mid-ground, and background of a composition, the students were able to transform the three sections of their paper into an incredible winter scene. Each painting is so individual. The use of color and texture is amazing and the sense of adventure is evident in each work of art. The paintings really set the mood for the winter season!

Project Red Ball (PRB)

Standard

Each year at Kensington, the entire 4th grade class creates a large scale work of art that the entire school will be able to admire and visit proudly for years to come. This year’s project is a contemporary art piece using digital photography as the medium. Each student will receive 1 red ball. The intention is that every student will take a photo of this simple, yet classic object in some unique and creative way. Although individual, all the photos will feature the red ball. The final piece will be whimsical, fun, and thought provoking in the Pop Art tradition with a slight Surrealist twist. The PTA art room support chair, Darrelle Centuori and I are working with the kids in this work. Photos are due January 25, 2010!

5th Grade Perspective Paintings

Standard

Using a magical tool called a crayon, 5th grade students created depth by sketching an outdoor landscape painting. The purpose of using the magical tool is to challenge them to not erase their first idea. They are learning to make their first attempt of drawing useable. I think sketching this way builds confidence and gives each student an awesome challenge to make art happen! Everyone is really proud of their artwork already, and we have only just begun to paint the final product. Each landscape is completely different and all create depth. Evidence of people being in the painting was allowed but no actual people. Can’t wait to see the finished artwork!

3rd and 5th Grade CLAY Art

Standard

3rd and 5th graders are finishing their clay projects in time for the holidays. 3rd grade students created realistic clay portraits which are incredible! They had a lot of fun created their face and adding the details to make each one unique. 5th grade students created clay wind-chimes with an a subject of their choice. From sports, music, and seasons to gardening, outer space, and fashion-each wind chime was defiantly a challenge but are turning out beautifully. The kiln is in use and the art room is HOT! Here is a look at the firing kiln.
